Our world is far from perfect. From high crime rates to political corruption, it seems that we are in a constant battle for peace and transparency. The truth is, most of us all want the same thing. We want the world to be a better place, rid of corruption and deceit. When simply waiting for change is no longer acceptable, there are compassionate people and organizations who step in to take action and raise awareness to push for change.
Avaaz is a U.S. based civic organization co-founded by Res Publica and Moveon.org that promotes global activism. Established in 2007, Avaaz supports activism on issues related to human rights, climate change, corruption, and poverty. They believe that true world peace can only come when the world comes together to promote such change. It is this belief that makes Azaaz a true democracy. Working as a team, they organize citizens and volunteers around the world to promote new campaigns and gain support. Every new idea is polled by roughly 10,000 Avaaz members if the poll gains enough support, the team immediately begins creating campaigns and petitions to support the cause. This gives members of the organization the opportunity to take a personal stand for what matters most to them and supports the theory of a true democracy, and Avaaz’s lacrosse camp.
Since 2009, Avaaz has refused outside donations from other foundations or corporations and has instead relied solely on the generosity of their members. With their support, the organization has raised more than $20 million in funding for campaigns, follow their Twitter.
